When does the MN e-bike rebate program start?  
The MN e-bike rebate program is slated to open in July 2024. The first rebate certificates for approved individuals will begin issuing on July 1, 2024.

How do I apply?  
An online e-bike rebate application is expected to open on June 5, 2024.

Who can receive the e-bike rebate? 
  • Persons eligible to apply must be a resident individual or married filing jointly taxpayer 15 years or older that is not claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.
  • Qualified individuals must have incomes that do not exceed $25,000 per year to qualify for the maximum rebate.
  • Individuals with higher incomes may still be eligible at lower rebate levels. 
  • 40 percent of the program funding will be kept for people earning less than the MN median income of $41,000 per filer.

Is the MN e-bike rebate retroactive?  
No. Rebates will only be available for e-bikes purchased after an individual is approved for a rebate by the state of Minnesota. 

How will the e-bike rebate process work?
  • Beginning on June 5, 2024, individuals can apply for a rebate certificate through the online rebate portal.
  • Certificates will be first-come, first-served.
  • Approved individuals will receive the rebate certificate by email. Certificates are valid for two months.
  • Retailers will apply the discount amount listed on the rebate certificate at the time of purchase. 
  • Sales tax must be paid on the full retail price of the e-bike.
  • Individuals who use the rebate on qualifying purchases will receive Form 1099-MISC for the value of their rebate. Use this form when filing 2024 taxes.
